Awakening from Spiritual Slumber
In a world where comfort often lulls us into complacency, there comes a time when we must awaken from our spiritual slumber. This awakening is not just a call to action but a divine nudge to rekindle the flame that flickers out while we sleep. God is stirring us from our "comfortably numb" state, urging us that it is almost time to go home, and that there is work to be done.
The Call to Awaken
In John 3:25-30, John the Baptist declares, "He must increase, but I must decrease." This profound statement is not just about John's recognition of Jesus as the Christ but also the prescription for victorious living. It is a call to let Christ increase in our lives while the personal, selfish, and worldly, things in our lives decrease.
The Urgency of the Times
As we navigate these unprecedented times, we are reminded of the urgency to perfect our character in Christ. The Great Controversy warns us of a time of trouble soon to be upon us. We are called upon to spiritually prepare ourselves for this great tribulation and not be found sleeping as many in the church are today. This is not a call to perfection in our own strength but a reminder that through Christ, we can achieve what seems impossible.
The Power of Abiding
Abiding in Christ is more than a fleeting glance; it is a committed, enduring relationship.
As we abide in Him, drawing life from His strength, wisdom, and merits, we become more like Him. This transformation is not just about personal growth but about becoming ambassadors for Christ, revealing God's character to a world in need.
Embracing the New Creation
The promise of becoming a new creation in Christ is not just for the future but a reality we can experience now. As we decrease and He increases, we are transformed to reflect His glory and character. This transformation is part of God's perfect plan, enabling us to continue the mission of revealing His love and truth to the world.
The Challenge of Decreasing
The real challenge often lies not in allowing Christ to increase, but in our willingness to decrease in the things of this world. We must resist the temptation to fit Jesus into our lives on our terms, and instead allow Him to mold us according to His will through his representative here on earth, the Holy Spirit. This requires a commitment to truth, a willingness to let go of worldly attachments, and a focus on becoming more like Him.
This Week's Call to Action
As we gather in fellowship, let us embrace the call to awaken from our spiritual slumber. Let us commit to increasing Christ in our lives and decreasing ourselves and our preoccupation with the things of this world, allowing His transformative Spirit to work within us so that we may more fully reflect His image, who is Himself the perfect image and reflection of our heavenly Father above.
Only then will we be fully prepared to fufill our mission of revealing God's loving character, and the news of His wonderful gift of salvation through his Son Jesus Christ, to the world in these last days. May we pray for strength, unity, and the courage to embrace this divine call, knowing that through Christ, we can achieve all things. Amen.
